Government Clarifies Recognition of Operation Sindoor Heroes, Rejects Claims of Delayed Acknowledgment
New Delhi: The Government of India has issued a clarification regarding media reports and social media posts claiming that the sacrifices of six Indian military personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor were acknowledged publicly for the first time only recently. Officials have stated that these claims are incorrect and do not reflect the sequence of official events.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the nation formally paid tribute to the six brave soldiers at the earliest opportunity following the operation. The government emphasized that their courage and supreme sacrifice had already been publicly recognized through official channels well before the recent reports began circulating.
The clarification pointed to the official press briefing held on May 11, 2025, during which the then Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) paid solemn homage to the personnel who laid down their lives while carrying out their duties during Operation Sindoor. During that briefing, the DGMO acknowledged their contribution and honored their sacrifice before the nation.
The Ministry further noted that the recognition extended beyond public tribute. On August 14, 2025, the six soldiers were conferred gallantry awards in recognition of their exceptional bravery and devotion to duty. The honours were officially announced through a government press release, marking formal national recognition of their service and sacrifice in accordance with the traditions of the Indian Armed Forces.
Officials stressed that the gallantry awards reflected the nation’s gratitude toward the fallen personnel and served as an enduring acknowledgment of their courage. The Ministry reiterated that there had been no delay in recognizing the soldiers and that official records clearly document both the public tribute and the conferment of national honours.
