French President Emmanuel Macron introduced a fresh cabinet on Monday following the unexpected collapse of the previous government. The previous administration, led by a center-right coalition, faced significant pressure from both the left and far-right in Parliament, which led to its downfall in under three months.

The newly formed government, which reflects a similar center-right orientation, aims to stabilize the political situation in France. Prime Minister François Bayrou, tasked with overseeing the formation of the new cabinet, has unveiled a list of 35 ministers who will hold key positions in the government.

Among the new appointments is Elisabeth Borne, who has been given the role of Minister of State and will head the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, and Research. Manuel Valls takes on the Ministry of Overseas Territories, while Gérald Darmanin assumes the crucial post of Minister of State, Keeper of the Seals, and Minister of Justice.

The Ministry of the Interior will be led by Bruno Retailleau, and Catherine Vaytrin will be responsible for overseeing Labor, Health, Solidarity, and Families. Eric Lombard has been appointed to the role of Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, while Sébastien Lecornu is now in charge of the Ministry of Armed Forces. Rachida Dati will serve as the Minister of Culture.

Further appointments include Francois Rebsamen, who will handle Regional Planning and Decentralization, and Jean-Noël Barrot, who will be responsible for Digital Affairs.

This new government marks a strategic move by Macron to address growing political challenges, with the aim of strengthening his administration’s ability to navigate France’s political landscape. By selecting a blend of seasoned leaders and fresh faces, Macron hopes to bring stability and ensure his legislative agenda moves forward. The reshuffling is seen as an important step in Macron’s ongoing effort to retain control and continue his vision for France’s future.
