External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently shed light on the Trump administration’s focused efforts to enhance the India-US relationship and their emphasis on India’s inclusion in significant global events. Speaking at a press conference in Washington D.C., Jaishankar outlined key aspects of the bilateral relationship, highlighting shared goals and a commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships such as the Quad.

Jaishankar noted the importance the Trump administration placed on India’s participation in pivotal moments, particularly mentioning its prioritization of India’s presence at the inaugural ceremonies. “If I were to share my overall impressions, it was very clear that the Trump administration was keen to have India present at the inaugural itself. They’re clearly prioritising the bilateral relationship,” he stated.

During his interactions, Jaishankar observed the administration’s intent to build upon the robust foundation established during President Trump’s first term. He credited both former President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating transformative measures that significantly deepened ties between the two nations. “The foundation built during the first Trump administration saw many initiatives, and we have witnessed these initiatives mature in diverse ways,” he added.

On the topic of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad), Jaishankar emphasized its increasing prominence in India-US relations. The Quad, comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, has become a key platform for advancing shared interests in the Indo-Pacific region. Jaishankar acknowledged a mutual commitment to intensify the Quad’s activities, with the current US administration demonstrating an eagerness to align with India’s aspirations for its growth.

“The discussions reflected a very strong sense of reciprocity from the current administration in taking the Quad further. Both sides share a clear desire to elevate its collaboration and activities,” Jaishankar remarked.

The remarks by Jaishankar underscore the strategic significance of India-US relations, which continue to evolve amid changing global dynamics. The shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific, coupled with commitments to multilateral initiatives like the Quad, reflects the growing depth of the partnership between the two democracies.

As India and the United States work toward addressing common challenges, the legacy of past initiatives serves as a strong foundation for further cooperation. With shared priorities in security, trade, and regional stability, the India-US relationship is poised to achieve new milestones in the coming years.
