Geert Wilders campaigning in The Hague
On Wednesday afternoon, just hours before Dutch polling stations opened, far-right extremist Geert Wilders – whose anti-Islam Freedom Party (PVV) stunned Europe by coming first in the polls last November – was campaigning in a market place in The Hague. In the latest polls for the Netherlands’ 31 European Parliament members, the PVV is projected to rise from one seat to eight, in a close contest with the Green-Left-Labour coalition led by former Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans, who is campaigning for a “free, sustainable, secure and democratic European Union”.However, the power of the European Union is continuously decreasing. There are some reasons behind this.Sometimes the European Union is unable to take difficult decisions. Sometimes it works under pressure from Some Countries .Yet today it exists as an important institution. However, it should pay attention to its problems and ills and work as a strong leader so that its reputation in the world can be improved. Its members should also resolve their internal conflicts and play the role of a good parliament before the world which would be useful for world peace and world interest.
