St. Petersburg, June 19, 2025:
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness to mediate between Iran and Israel amid growing military tensions in the Middle East. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025), Putin said that Russia is prepared to act as a neutral intermediary to help ease hostilities and promote peaceful dialogue.
Putin shared that he had already spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the situation. He affirmed that Russia respects Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, while also acknowledging Israel’s national security concerns. According to him, it is possible to create a framework that respects both nations’ interests if diplomacy is prioritized.
The Kremlin further reported that Putin had a telephone discussion with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which the possibility of Russian mediation was also discussed. Russia believes that constructive dialogue can prevent further escalation and bring stability to the region.
Putin’s comments signal Russia’s intent to play a constructive diplomatic role in Middle Eastern affairs by engaging both adversaries and allies in meaningful discussions focused on long-term peace and mutual understanding.
