New Delhi, India – June 20, 2025 – Air India today announced the cancellation of several international and domestic flights originating from and destined for New Delhi, citing a confluence of increased aircraft checks, adverse weather conditions, and prevailing airspace restrictions. The disruptions have significantly impacted travel plans for numerous passengers, particularly those traveling to and from major Indian cities and international hubs.
The affected routes include key services connecting New Delhi with international destinations such as Dubai and Melbourne. Domestically, flights to and from Chennai, Delhi itself (likely referring to inter-terminal or specific route segments), Melbourne (possibly a domestic leg or connecting flight through India), Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Mumbai have all experienced cancellations.
Air India’s official statement highlighted specific flight numbers impacted by the cancellations. International flights AI906 from Dubai to Chennai, AI308 from Delhi to Melbourne, and AI309 from Melbourne to Delhi were among those called off. On the domestic front, AI2204 from Dubai to Hyderabad (indicating a connecting flight), AI874 from Pune to Delhi, AI456 from Ahmedabad to Delhi, AI-2872 from Hyderabad to Mumbai, and AI571 from Chennai to Mumbai have all been cancelled due to what the airline described as “enhanced maintenance and operational reasons.”
In response to the widespread cancellations, Air India has committed to offering full refunds or complimentary rescheduling to all affected passengers. The airline is also actively assisting travelers in making alternate travel arrangements to minimize the inconvenience caused by these unforeseen circumstances.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our esteemed passengers,” an Air India spokesperson stated. “Our dedicated colleagues on the ground are working tirelessly to facilitate alternative arrangements, ensuring passengers reach their respective destinations at the earliest possible opportunity.”
Passengers holding bookings on Air India flights today are strongly advised to proactively check the airline’s official website for the latest flight status updates or to contact their customer service for further assistance and rebooking options. The current situation underscores the dynamic nature of air travel, where operational necessities and external factors like weather can lead to significant, albeit necessary, disruptions.
