India Expands Strategic Ties with Madagascar During High-Level Defence Visit

Antananarivo, Madagascar – June 28, 2025: In a meaningful step toward strengthening India’s presence in the Indian Ocean Region, Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth visited Madagascar from June 25 to 27, 2025, heading an official Indian delegation. His visit marked India’s participation in the 65th Independence Day celebrations of Madagascar and the anniversary of the founding of the Malagasy Armed Forces.
During his stay, Shri Seth engaged in a significant bilateral discussion with Madagascar’s Minister of Armed Forces, Lt Gen Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin. Both sides explored opportunities to expand cooperation in defence, with a special focus on maritime security, joint training, and capacity enhancement of security forces.
The Raksha Rajya Mantri also had a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Christian Ntsay, during which he conveyed congratulatory messages and warm regards from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The meeting served to reaffirm India’s ongoing commitment to supporting Madagascar’s aspirations for development and security.
In addition to official engagements, Shri Sanjay Seth interacted with members of the Indian diaspora at a community reception organized by the Embassy of India in Antananarivo. He shared insights into India’s recent advancements across sectors and highlighted the government’s efforts in building a stronger, self-reliant nation.
India and Madagascar share a long-standing friendship shaped by cultural connections, regional proximity, and shared interests. Shri Seth’s visit reflected India’s forward-looking approach in fostering regional partnerships. It also aligns with India’s broader vision of cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region, promoting collective security and inclusive growth.
