Allahabad High Court Quashes Gangrape and Robbery Case After Compromise, Imposes Fine on Both Parties

In a significant decision, the Allahabad High Court has dismissed ongoing criminal proceedings in a gangrape and robbery case after both parties reached a mutual settlement. The case, which was under trial court review, involved serious allegations but was closed due to the compromise. The court also imposed a penalty of ₹2,000 each on the alleged victim and the accused.
Justice Dr. Gautam Chaudhary, while hearing a petition filed by Munish and two others from Badaun district, delivered a strong statement along with the verdict. The court emphasized that the law is a tool for justice, not a weapon for conspiracies. It noted a concerning trend where individuals file serious cases like gangrape merely to pressure opponents or settle personal scores, and later withdraw statements, turning justice into a mockery.
The bench observed that registering a case and then retracting statements for personal benefit has become increasingly common. Highlighting this misuse, the judge warned that courts cannot remain passive spectators when legal provisions are exploited.
This ruling underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the legal system while condemning false litigation used for manipulation.
