West Bengal’s ‘Swasthyalginit’ Telemedicine Program Surpasses 6 Crore Consultations, Sets New Benchmark for Remote Healthcare

Kolkata, West Bengal – July 1, 2025
In a remarkable advancement in digital healthcare, the Government of West Bengal’s flagship telemedicine initiative, ‘Swasthyalginit,’ has achieved a significant feat—crossing 6 crore (60 million) tele-consultations since its launch in August 2021. This landmark achievement highlights the state’s commitment to extending quality healthcare services to even the most inaccessible regions.
Spearheaded by the West Bengal Health Department, the initiative has brought specialized medical services directly to the doorsteps of millions through a vast network of over 10,000 SuSwasthya Kendras. By utilizing telemedicine technology, ‘Swasthyalginit’ has broken traditional barriers of distance and availability, offering citizens—especially those in rural and remote areas—timely access to expert care.
One of the program’s standout features is its wide range of specialist consultations, enabling patients to connect virtually with experts in neurology, nephrology, cardiology, oncology, and paediatrics. Previously, such specialized care often required traveling to metropolitan hospitals—a challenge for those in underdeveloped regions. Now, expert medical advice is available at the local level, bringing dignity and efficiency to rural health services.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a recent message, celebrated the milestone by praising the tireless efforts of the medical community. She extended her heartfelt congratulations to the dedicated doctors, nurses, paramedics, and all staff involved in making the program a success. Their collective efforts, she said, have brought transformative change to the state’s public healthcare system.
The ‘Swasthyalginit’ program is increasingly being seen as a model for digital health delivery in India. By harnessing technology to ensure medical equity, West Bengal is demonstrating how innovation can bridge gaps in healthcare infrastructure and promote inclusive growth. As the initiative continues to expand, it stands as a beacon of what is possible when policy, technology, and compassion work together.
With its ongoing success, ‘Swasthyalginit’ not only improves health outcomes but also redefines the future of rural healthcare—proving that quality medical attention is not a privilege limited to urban centers, but a right for every citizen.
