U.S. President Joe Biden has strongly denounced the latest Republican budget proposal, describing it as not only “reckless” but “cruel,” accusing GOP lawmakers of prioritizing tax breaks for billionaires over the well-being of working-class Americans.

In a statement posted to social media on July 4, 2025, Biden laid out the consequences he believes the Republican plan would have on millions of Americans. According to the President, the bill would result in sweeping cuts to Medicaid, stripping essential healthcare access from some of the most vulnerable populations. He warned that rural hospitals would face closures and that food assistance programs serving veterans and senior citizens would be slashed.

Biden also raised alarms about the potential economic fallout. He claimed the bill could significantly increase energy costs for families and introduce steep cuts to Medicare, while paradoxically increasing the national deficit by as much as $4 trillion. The President framed the entire proposal as a means to deliver “a massive tax break to billionaires,” arguing that the financial burden would fall squarely on the shoulders of everyday working Americans.

“Working people deserve better,” Biden concluded, reiterating his administration’s commitment to protecting public healthcare programs and providing economic relief to the middle and lower classes.

The President’s remarks mark a continuation of the stark partisan divide over fiscal policy, healthcare access, and economic equity. His criticism sets the stage for what is expected to be a heated debate in Congress, with Democrats likely to rally around Biden’s framing of the bill as a threat to social safety nets.

As the budget battle intensifies, the issue will remain a critical topic in the lead-up to the 2026 midterm elections, with healthcare, tax reform, and social services likely to dominate public discourse.
