On the occasion of his 90th birthday, the Dalai Lama delivered a heartfelt message to his global well-wishers, highlighting values of compassion, altruism, and spiritual development over material achievements. As celebrations take place across the world, particularly in Tibetan communities, the spiritual leader used the moment to share his deep reflections on how humanity can foster a better world.

Acknowledging the various events organized in his honor, the Dalai Lama expressed gratitude but reiterated his identity as a “simple Buddhist monk” who typically does not take part in birthday festivities. Still, recognizing the widespread attention, he chose to convey thoughts aligned with his lifelong mission of promoting inner peace and universal compassion.

He stressed that while material progress is important, achieving peace of mind and nurturing a compassionate heart are essential pursuits. True fulfillment, he noted, arises not just from success or wealth but from being kind and selfless toward others. “Be compassionate not only toward your loved ones but toward everyone,” he advised. According to him, such a mindset can significantly contribute to making the world a more peaceful and harmonious place.

The Dalai Lama reaffirmed his ongoing commitments: promoting human values, religious harmony, and drawing global attention to ancient Indian wisdom. He emphasized the teachings from Indian spiritual traditions that explain the nature of the mind and emotions, as well as the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Tibet. These teachings, he believes, hold immense potential to guide humanity toward emotional well-being and collective harmony.

In his message, he also paid tribute to Indian Buddhist masters like Shantideva, whose teachings of selflessness and compassion continue to inspire him. Through their guidance and the Buddha’s teachings, he draws strength and courage in his daily life.

Ending his message with a poignant verse, the Dalai Lama vowed to continue serving the world:

> “As long as space endures,
As long as sentient beings remain,
Until then, may I too remain
To dispel the miseries of the world.”

Dated July 5, 2025, his message is a gentle yet profound reminder of the timeless values that can lead humanity toward lasting peace, understanding, and unity.
