Paris, August 12, 2025 — French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed Australia’s decision to join an international diplomatic push aimed at reviving the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The initiative, first launched in New York and already endorsed by the United Kingdom, Canada, Portugal, and several other nations, seeks to reaffirm global commitment to a two-state solution as the foundation for lasting peace in the region.

In a statement, Macron expressed satisfaction that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had joined the coalition, calling it “a sign of our shared commitment to the two-state solution and the collective reconstruction of a political pathway.” The French leader stressed that without a credible political framework, there could be no sustainable peace or security for either Israelis or Palestinians.

The initiative builds on a renewed sense of urgency among international actors to break the long-standing deadlock in peace talks. It emphasizes not only the principle of two states — Israel and Palestine existing side by side in peace — but also the need for coordinated humanitarian, economic, and governance support to help stabilize the region.

Macron has been vocal in advocating for a broad-based diplomatic effort, urging partners to move beyond rhetorical support and work toward concrete measures that could facilitate negotiations. This includes promoting dialogue, ensuring the protection of civilians, addressing security concerns, and supporting reconstruction efforts in areas affected by conflict.

By bringing together countries from different continents, the coalition aims to demonstrate that the cause of Middle East peace is a global responsibility, not confined to regional powers alone. With Australia now on board, Macron said he hopes momentum will grow for a renewed political process — one that, in his words, “offers a real horizon of peace for all.”
