President Donald Trump has announced the approval of nearly $32 million in federal assistance to support recovery efforts in North Carolina following severe flooding that struck the state in July.

In a statement, the President emphasized his commitment to the people of North Carolina, a state he noted he has carried in six consecutive elections, including primary contests. He said the funding was authorized in response to requests from North Carolina leaders, including Senator Ted Budd and Michael Whatley, the state’s Republican Party chairman and candidate for U.S. Senate.

“I am proud to approve nearly $32 million dollars in assistance for the Great State of North Carolina,” President Trump said, adding that he had already notified North Carolina Governor Josh Stein of the decision. Trump expressed confidence that the funds would be used to speed up the state’s recovery from storm damage.

The President contrasted the current response with that of former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper, who is now running for the U.S. Senate. Trump criticized Cooper’s handling of previous natural disasters, while praising Budd and Whatley for their efforts in supporting recovery and advocating for federal resources.

The funding is expected to aid communities that were hit hard by flooding in July, which damaged homes, infrastructure, and farmland. Federal and state agencies are expected to work together to ensure the money is directed toward relief and rebuilding initiatives.

As North Carolina prepares for upcoming elections, the federal support package and Trump’s endorsement of Republican leaders are likely to play a significant role in shaping the political landscape in the state.
