Villagers in Mendua Salem Pur (Kaushambi) Allege Violation of Fundamental Rights Over Power Crisis

Mendua Salem Pur village in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh has been battling severe low-voltage and irregular power supply for days, and villagers say that this neglect is not merely an administrative lapse but a violation of their basic constitutional rights. Residents allege that despite repeated complaints, the electricity department has failed to provide a permanent solution and that departmental staff, including an employee named Rambabu—himself a resident of the village—and the Junior Engineer, maintain normal power in one part of the settlement while leaving the rest to suffer. This discriminatory approach, villagers say, directly undermines the constitutional promise of equality before the law and equal protection of the laws under Article 14.
They also point out that because low voltage prevents submersible pumps from working, the resulting drinking-water shortage deprives them of a life with dignity, which is protected under Article 21 of the Constitution. In their view, electricity is not just a service but an essential facility without which access to clean water, education, health care and economic activity becomes impossible. By ignoring their grievances, they argue, the authorities are effectively infringing upon these fundamental rights guaranteed to every citizen.
The residents further contend that such continued indifference damages the credibility of the state electricity department and erodes public faith in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s development-oriented governance. They have demanded an impartial inquiry and a permanent solution so that their right to equality and their right to live with dignity are no longer compromised.
