Prime Minister Modi Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighters Tiruppur Kumaran and Subramania Siva

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid heartfelt tribute to two of Tamil Nadu’s most revered sons, Tiruppur Kumaran and Subramania Siva, describing them as “spiritual warriors of Bharat Mata” who dedicated their lives to the cause of India’s freedom and to instilling patriotism among the masses.
In his message, the Prime Minister reflected on their unwavering courage, sacrifice, and devotion to the motherland, noting that their contributions remain a lasting source of inspiration for generations of Indians.
Tiruppur Kumaran, also known as Kodi Kaatha Kumaran (the one who protected the flag), became a powerful symbol of defiance during India’s freedom struggle. He sacrificed his life while holding the Indian national flag, refusing to let it fall even in his final moments. Modi praised his heroic act as a timeless testament to “unparalleled bravery and selfless sacrifice.”
Equally, Subramania Siva was remembered for his fiery spirit and intellectual courage. A poet, writer, and revolutionary, he used his pen and voice to ignite the flame of nationalism among India’s youth. Through his impassioned speeches and writings, Siva inspired countless young people to rise against colonial rule and take pride in India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that both men hailed from the land of Tamil Nadu—a state renowned for its deep cultural roots and its steadfast role in India’s independence movement. Their lives, he said, are not just a part of history but a guiding light for every Indian committed to building a strong, united, and self-reliant nation.
“The efforts of these two great patriots will forever remain etched in our national memory,” Modi said. “Their sacrifices remind us of the countless others who suffered and struggled to free our nation from colonial rule. Their courage continues to motivate us to work together for national unity and progress.”
The Prime Minister concluded his message with a call to uphold the spirit of sacrifice and unity embodied by Tiruppur Kumaran and Subramania Siva. “As we march toward national growth and development,” he said, “let their devotion to India’s freedom be our inspiration to serve the country with the same love, courage, and selflessness.”
The tribute serves as a reminder that India’s freedom was won through the indomitable spirit of ordinary men and women who refused to bow to oppression—and that their legacy continues to shape the nation’s collective conscience today.
