President Trump Draws Firm Line on Protests, Warns of Strong Federal Action

President Donald J. Trump has issued a forceful statement outlining his administration’s approach to protests, civil unrest, and the protection of federal property across the United States. The message makes it clear that while local governments are primarily responsible for maintaining order within their jurisdictions, the federal government will act decisively when national assets or federal personnel are threatened.
President Trump said he has directed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem not to intervene in protest-related situations in state or city jurisdictions unless local authorities formally request federal assistance. According to the President, cities and states must first take responsibility for protecting their own public property and maintaining law and order.
However, the President emphasized that federal buildings, courthouses, parks, and other government facilities fall under direct federal protection. He stated that agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Border Patrol have been instructed to respond aggressively to any attempts to damage federal property or attack federal officers.
Referencing an incident in Eugene, Oregon, President Trump alleged that rioters broke into a federal building, caused significant damage, and intimidated federal employees while local police failed to act. He said such incidents would no longer be allowed to continue and warned that violent behavior, including assaults on officers or attacks on federal vehicles, would face serious consequences.
President Trump also recalled earlier unrest in Los Angeles, stating that federal intervention helped restore stability when local authorities struggled to regain control. He argued that federal assistance is effective when state and local leaders acknowledge the need for support and formally request help from Washington.
In a sharp message to governors and mayors, the President said federal forces stand ready to assist but only when local governments clearly ask for help. He stressed that cooperation between federal, state, and local authorities is essential for maintaining public safety and protecting government property.
Concluding his statement, President Trump reaffirmed his commitment to border security, national defense, and strict enforcement of law and order. He said the American people elected him to uphold these principles and promised that federal property and institutions would be protected “without compromise,” even if it requires the use of powerful federal resources.
