The ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are creating new strategic and economic concerns for Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In an interview with RAI Italia, Zelenskyy discussed how tensions involving Iran, Russia, and the United States could indirectly affect Ukraine’s defense capabilities and global energy markets.

Concerns Over Iranian Military Support to Russia

Zelenskyy stated that Iran had previously supplied Russia with weapons that were used during the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. However, he noted that the situation may be changing due to the current military tensions in the Middle East.

According to him, Iran is now less likely to provide additional weapons directly because it may need to focus on its own regional security challenges. Despite this, Zelenskyy warned that earlier technology transfers remain a serious issue. Russia has already obtained licenses and technical knowledge that allow it to manufacture Iranian-designed drones and missiles domestically.

This means that even if new supplies from Iran stop, Russia could continue producing similar weapons on its own.

Possible Impact on Western Military Support

Another major concern highlighted by Zelenskyy relates to signals coming from the United States. Both official and unofficial discussions indicate that the U.S. military may need to strengthen its own air defense capabilities and those of its allies due to growing instability in the Middle East.

If the conflict continues for a prolonged period, the United States might prioritize its own regional defense needs. This could potentially affect the supply of advanced air defense systems and interceptor missiles to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy specifically mentioned the importance of interceptor missiles used in the Patriot Missile System, including PAC-2 and PAC-3 variants, which play a crucial role in defending Ukrainian cities from missile and drone attacks.

Rising Oil Prices Add to Global Pressure

The Ukrainian president also addressed the economic consequences of ongoing conflicts, particularly the rise in global oil prices. According to him, the situation is creating challenges not only for Ukraine but for many countries across Europe and the wider world.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s energy difficulties are largely linked to Russia’s invasion and the disruption of energy infrastructure. At the same time, military tensions and restrictions on oil product imports are contributing to higher energy prices internationally.

A Global Challenge

Zelenskyy concluded that the combined impact of war, energy disruptions, and geopolitical tensions is creating a complex global crisis. Governments around the world will need to work together to manage energy stability, maintain security cooperation, and prevent the conflicts from escalating further.

As international attention shifts between multiple conflict zones, Ukraine continues to monitor how these developments may influence both military support and the global economic environment.
