A special handloom exhibition titled “Virasat Shakti” has been inaugurated at Handloom Haat, Janpath, highlighting the remarkable contribution of women artisans and celebrating India’s rich handloom traditions. The event was formally opened by Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner for Handlooms under the Ministry of Textiles, marking an important initiative to promote traditional weaving and empower women in the sector.
The exhibition brings together skilled weavers from different parts of the country, offering visitors an opportunity to explore authentic handloom products crafted using time-honored techniques. Through this platform, artisans are able to showcase their craftsmanship directly to the public while preserving the cultural legacy that handloom textiles represent.
“Virasat Shakti” reflects the deep connection between heritage and empowerment. Women have long played a central role in India’s handloom industry, not only as artisans but also as guardians of traditional knowledge passed down through generations. Their creativity and dedication have helped keep many regional weaving styles alive, even in the face of modern industrial production.
Organized by the National Handloom Development Corporation with the support of the Ministry of Textiles, the expo aims to strengthen the visibility of handloom products and support the livelihoods of weavers. By creating a direct marketplace for artisans, such exhibitions help ensure that the creators receive greater recognition and economic benefit from their work.
Visitors attending the expo can explore a diverse range of handloom items, including traditional sarees, fabrics, scarves, and home textiles. Each product reflects the unique identity of the region from which it originates, showcasing India’s vast cultural diversity and textile traditions.
The event also serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving handloom craftsmanship in a rapidly changing world. Handwoven textiles represent not only artistic skill but also sustainable production practices, as many are made using natural fibers and environmentally friendly methods.
Running from 7 March to 14 March 2026, the exhibition remains open to the public daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to interact directly with the artisans, learn about their techniques, and gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural stories woven into each piece of fabric.
By celebrating the work of women weavers and promoting India’s textile heritage, “Virasat Shakti” stands as a tribute to the enduring strength, creativity, and tradition that define the country’s handloom sector.
