New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a clarification dismissing viral social media claims that the use of E20 fuel could result in the rejection of motor vehicle insurance claims. According to the government’s fact-checking unit, the information being circulated online is false and has no basis in existing insurance policies.
The misleading posts suggested that vehicle owners who use E20 fuel—a blend containing 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol—might lose insurance coverage or face difficulties when filing claims after an accident. The claim quickly gained attention on various social media platforms, causing confusion among motorists.
Responding to the rumors, the PIB Fact Check unit categorically stated that motor insurance policies remain valid when E20 fuel is used in vehicles. The agency emphasized that there is no rule or policy provision that automatically invalidates insurance coverage solely because a vehicle operates on E20 fuel.
The clarification comes at a time when India is actively promoting ethanol blending as part of its broader strategy to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, support domestic agriculture, and lower carbon emissions. E20 fuel has been introduced in several parts of the country as part of the government’s clean-energy and sustainability initiatives.
Officials have urged citizens not to rely on unverified social media posts for important information related to vehicles, insurance, or government policies. Instead, motorists are encouraged to verify claims through official channels before making decisions or sharing information online.
The PIB also highlighted the importance of combating misinformation, noting that false claims can create unnecessary panic and confusion among the public. Citizens who encounter suspicious or misleading content can report it to the PIB Fact Check team for verification.
As India continues its transition toward cleaner fuel alternatives, authorities have reiterated that vehicle owners should refer to official government notifications, insurance providers, and verified sources for accurate information. The latest clarification serves as a reminder that responsible information sharing is essential in the digital age.
The government has once again urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and to support efforts aimed at ensuring that factual and verified information reaches citizens across the country.
