Celebrating 277 Years of Excellence: Defence Accounts Department’s Annual Day 2024

The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) is set to commemorate its 277th Annual Day on October 1, 2024, with a grand celebration at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This momentous occasion will be graced by the presence of Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, who is expected to launch a series of significant publications and initiatives designed to enhance the department’s efficiency and service delivery.

Among the key initiatives to be unveiled are the Defence Travel System 2.0, aimed at streamlining travel processes for personnel; the SPARSH Audit Manual, which will serve as a comprehensive guide for audit practices; the Comprehensive Statistical Handbook on Defence Expenditure 2024, providing valuable insights into defence spending; and the Market Intelligence Report 2023-24, which will offer critical analyses and forecasts for the defence sector.

Additionally, a short film highlighting the achievements and evolution of the DAD will be premiered during the event. The celebrations will also feature the Raksha Mantri Excellence Awards 2024, honoring outstanding employees who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their respective roles and contributed significantly to the implementation of the department’s key initiatives.

The event will see attendance from senior officials, including Service Chiefs and Principal Staff Officers from the Armed Forces, as well as various Secretaries and senior government representatives. Their participation underscores the collaborative spirit between the Defence Accounts Department and the military, emphasizing the vital role DAD plays in supporting the Armed Forces.

Tracing its origins back to 1747 with the establishment of the Military Pay Master, the DAD has continually evolved, adapting to the changing needs of the Armed Forces and the nation. The department has consistently provided exemplary services in areas such as internal audit, accounting, financial advice, and defence pension management, ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources allocated to the defence sector.

As the DAD celebrates this significant milestone, it reaffirms its commitment to excellence and innovation, striving to meet the challenges of modern defence administration and contribute to the nation’s security.
