A tense standoff unfolded in the Ghaziabad district court on Tuesday as a dispute between lawyers and District Judge Anil Kumar escalated into a confrontation, resulting in vandalism and a violent clash. The incident began when senior lawyer Nahar Singh Yadav requested that a bail petition be transferred to another court, which led to a heated exchange with the judge and ultimately erupted into chaos.

The situation intensified as the judge reportedly declined the transfer request, which, according to the lawyers, resulted in a sharp exchange. Lawyers present alleged that Judge Anil Kumar responded harshly, leading to a verbal confrontation. According to the lawyers, Judge Kumar then called for police and PAC reinforcements.

When the police arrived to control the situation, tensions escalated further. Lawyers, enraged by the police intervention and the alleged mistreatment, reportedly resorted to throwing chairs inside the courtroom. Police resorted to a baton charge to disperse the crowd, which further infuriated the lawyers. In retaliation, the lawyers allegedly damaged property and set a police outpost on fire within the court premises.

Serious Allegations Against Judge and Police Under Investigation

Lawyers have alleged that the doors were intentionally closed by court officials to trap them and that force was used against them within the courtroom, resulting in injuries to several advocates. Senior advocate and former Bar President Nahar Singh Yadav condemned the judge’s behavior, describing it as abusive and provocative, and has called for an investigation into the incident.

Additional Police Commissioner Dinesh Kumar P, addressing the incident, stated that the police are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the sequence of events and hold those responsible accountable. He clarified that the dispute originated from a hearing on a regular bail petition involving nine defendants, during which lawyers requested a case transfer. Upon the judge’s refusal, tensions boiled over, and police were called in to escort the judge to safety.

Following the incident, the court premises remain under heightened security with police and PAC forces stationed to prevent any further violence. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to maintain peace within the court complex.
