As India celebrates 10 years of the Swachh Bharat Mission, NITI Aayog has played an important role in the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ (SHS) campaign 2024, held from 15th September to 2nd October. This campaign, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aimed to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on 2nd October, 2024, and reaffirm the nation’s commitment to cleanliness and a garbage-free India. The theme for the 2024 SHS campaign is “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata,” focusing on promoting cleanliness as both a habit and a value in society.
NITI Aayog’s involvement during the campaign saw a series of activities aimed at promoting cleanliness and sanitation within its premises. One of the notable events was the inspection of the Record Room on 23rd September 2024. Senior officers took a hands-on approach to reviewing files, digitizing old records, and ensuring that unnecessary scrap materials were disposed of responsibly. This step was crucial in organizing the department’s records and encouraging digitization as part of the ongoing effort to improve administrative efficiency.
In addition to the inspection, a widespread awareness campaign was conducted. Banners and standees were displayed across the NITI Aayog premises, including gates, outdoor areas, and offices, promoting the message of cleanliness. The campaign’s presence was also highlighted on the NITI Aayog website, making it accessible to both employees and visitors alike.
To further enhance the cleanliness drive, a comprehensive cleanliness campaign was conducted across all floors of the NITI Aayog office from 24th to 27th September 2024. This initiative actively engaged the staff in cleaning up the office premises, reinforcing the importance of maintaining a clean workspace. This was accompanied by a deep cleaning of the NITI Aayog canteen. The Welfare Team took charge of cleaning the canteen hall and kitchen, ensuring a more hygienic environment for employees.
On 2nd October 2024, marking Swachh Bharat Diwas, the Hon’ble Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Shri Suman K. Bery, administered the Swachhta Pledge to the entire NITI Aayog staff. This symbolic gesture emphasized the collective responsibility of all employees to maintain cleanliness. Following the pledge, Shri Bery, along with Hon’ble Members Shri Ramesh Chand and Shri Arvind Virmani, led a cleanliness drive on the NITI Aayog campus, actively engaging with the staff to promote a cleaner environment.
Through these dedicated efforts, NITI Aayog has demonstrated its commitment to the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The organization’s participation in SHS 2024 stands as a testament to its role in fostering a culture of cleanliness, efficiency, and responsibility, in line with the national vision of a cleaner and greener India.
