New York, 23rd September 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in New York, emphasizing India’s growing influence on the global stage and its deep-rooted cultural values. The event marked another milestone in Modi’s series of interactions with overseas Indians, following his previous engagements in Madison Square, Houston, and Washington.
Greeting the crowd with chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” PM Modi acknowledged the strong connection between the Indian diaspora and their homeland. He described them as the “nation’s emissaries” (Rashtradoot), playing a pivotal role in bridging ties between India and the world, particularly the United States.
The Prime Minister reflected on his long-standing relationship with the Indian community in the U.S., mentioning his earlier visits even before assuming public office. He shared memories of traveling across 29 states in America, learning about the country and its culture. He also highlighted the significant contributions of the Indian community to various sectors such as technology, healthcare, and sports.
In his speech, Modi emphasized the strong ties between India and the U.S., calling the relationship the “AI” of the modern world—where AI stands for “America-India.” He underscored the collaboration between the two nations as a driving force behind global progress, particularly in the fields of technology and innovation.
The Prime Minister also touched upon India’s recent achievements, including its rise to becoming the world’s fifth-largest economy. He noted that India’s development is not only creating opportunities domestically but also contributing to global growth. “India no longer waits for opportunities; it creates them,” he said, citing the government’s efforts to uplift millions of people from poverty and boost infrastructure, healthcare, and digital connectivity.
Modi also shared the historic achievement of India’s chess teams, who won gold in both men’s and women’s categories at the Chess Olympiad, a first in almost a century. He lauded the aspirations of young Indians, stating that their ambitions are fueling the nation’s rapid development.
Reflecting on his political journey, PM Modi credited his time spent traveling across India with shaping his governance model. “I couldn’t die for Swaraj, but I dedicated my life to Suraj and a prosperous Bharat,” he remarked, referring to his mission of good governance and India’s development.
Looking ahead, Modi outlined his vision for India’s future, coining the acronym PUSHP to describe the nation’s goals: Progressive, Unstoppable, Spiritual, Humanity-First, and Prosperous Bharat. He expressed confidence that these values would guide India’s path to becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).
The Prime Minister’s speech was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience, who celebrated India’s achievements and its promising future under his leadership.
