In a shocking turn of events, a woman was sexually assaulted in broad daylight on a bustling road in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The distressing incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Koyla Phatak, a major city intersection, where passersby chose to record the attack rather than intervene.

The accused, Lokesh, reportedly tricked the victim, a ragpicker, by promising marriage and subsequently intoxicated her with alcohol. After rendering her incapacitated, he took her to a roadside shelter where he committed the assault.

The video, which quickly went viral on social media, played a pivotal role in identifying the perpetrator and locating the survivor. Following the video’s widespread circulation, Lokesh was apprehended by the local police. The authorities have initiated a case based on the survivor’s statement, and the disturbing footage has been instrumental in the ongoing investigation.

This incident has ignited a political uproar, with the opposition Congress party heavily criticizing the ruling BJP for failing to maintain public safety. Congress leaders have condemned the situation, using the video as evidence of the deteriorating law and order in the state.

State Congress Chief Jitu Patwari voiced severe criticism, pointing out the dire state of public safety even in the Chief Minister’s hometown. His comments highlight a broader concern about the effectiveness of law enforcement and the societal responsibility of bystanders in preventing such crimes.

The incident underscores significant issues regarding public safety and the role of witnesses in emergency situations, raising urgent questions about both community responsibility and the adequacy of law enforcement responses.
