18-Year-Old Soccer Player Caroline Heints Killed; Boyfriend and His Mother Face Charges

August 21, 2026
An 18-year-old soccer player, Caroline Heints, was killed in a stabbing that has led to the arrest of her boyfriend, Royce Moser, and his mother, Rachel Moser, according to information contained in court documents and the reported police investigation.
Authorities identified Royce Moser, also 18, as the primary suspect in Heints’ death. Investigators allege that the stabbing occurred late at night while Heints and Moser were inside her Jeep parked outside his father’s residence.
According to court documents, Moser told police that he became angry over something Heints had said. He reportedly described the incident by telling investigators that a “demon took over.” The statement is part of the account documented by authorities and does not establish a separate explanation for the killing.
Knife Taken From Kitchen
Investigators allege that Moser went into the residence and obtained a large knife from the kitchen before returning to the vehicle. He then allegedly stabbed Heints in the chest.
Following the stabbing, Moser contacted his mother, Rachel Moser, seeking assistance, according to the reported investigation.
Authorities allege that the pair subsequently used Heints’ vehicle and drove toward the Penn West California campus. The vehicle was reportedly left near the California Borough Library.
Surveillance Video Becomes Part of Investigation
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the two suspects traveling toward the college. Investigators said the footage showed them wearing blue latex gloves, which became part of the evidence examined during the investigation.
Police later located and apprehended Royce and Rachel Moser at Rachel’s home in Belle Vernon early the following morning.
Both Suspects Taken Into Custody
Both Royce Moser and Rachel Moser were taken into custody in connection with the case. As the suspects were being transferred toward jail, Rachel Moser was recorded apologizing and saying, “I’m sorry my son took a life.”
The case centers on the alleged actions of Royce Moser in the death of Caroline Heints, as well as the alleged assistance provided by his mother after the stabbing. The allegations described in court documents remain part of the legal proceedings, and the charges must be addressed through the court process.
The death of Heints, who was 18 and known as a soccer player, has brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the late-night stabbing, the subsequent handling of her vehicle and the evidence gathered by investigators.
