Austria Seeks New AI Partnership With Saudi Arabia to Expand Digital Cooperation
Austria is moving to establish a new digital partnership with Saudi Arabia, with artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure emerging as the main areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Austria’s State Secretary for Digitalisation, Alexander Pröll, held discussions in Saudi Arabia on August 31 and September 1 as part of a high-level Austrian digital and business delegation visiting the country. The talks took place alongside the LEAP technology conference in Riyadh, one of the Middle East’s major technology events.
First digital partnership being explored
The Austrian government said the visit is aimed at laying the groundwork for what could become Austria’s first digital partnership with Saudi Arabia.
Pröll met with senior Saudi government representatives as well as companies working in technology and infrastructure. The discussions focused particularly on artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and opportunities for closer cooperation between Austrian and Saudi businesses.
Austria sees Saudi Arabia’s rapid investment in technology as an opportunity to develop new economic and innovation links.
AI at the centre of cooperation
Artificial intelligence is expected to play a major role in the proposed partnership.
The Austrian government noted Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy and its substantial investment in AI and digital infrastructure. Vienna believes cooperation in these areas could create opportunities for Austrian technology companies and strengthen international links in an increasingly digital economy.
The talks also provide an opportunity for Austrian companies to establish contacts with Saudi technology and infrastructure firms.
Austrian business delegation joins discussions
The digitalisation secretary travelled with a high-level Austrian business delegation, giving companies an opportunity to explore commercial opportunities alongside government-to-government discussions.
The delegation’s participation reflects Austria’s broader strategy of combining digital diplomacy with economic cooperation.
For Austrian businesses, Saudi Arabia’s expanding technology sector could offer potential opportunities in areas ranging from digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence to advanced technological services.
Saudi technology investment attracts international attention
Saudi Arabia has significantly increased its focus on digital technologies as part of Vision 2030, with AI and modern infrastructure becoming important elements of its economic diversification strategy.
Austria’s government believes the country’s rapid development in these areas makes it a valuable partner for future digital cooperation.
The discussions in Riyadh are therefore intended to move beyond individual business contacts and explore a more structured relationship between the two countries.
Next steps could shape bilateral technology ties
The Austrian government has described the current talks as an effort to establish the foundation for a future digital partnership rather than the completion of a final agreement.
Further discussions between officials and businesses will determine how cooperation develops and which areas receive priority.
If successfully established, the partnership could strengthen Austria’s presence in Saudi Arabia’s expanding technology ecosystem while giving Saudi institutions and companies greater access to Austrian expertise.
The initiative also reflects a wider trend in international diplomacy, where AI, digital infrastructure and technological innovation are increasingly becoming important parts of economic and foreign-policy cooperation.
