Spain Holds High-Level Government Meeting as Ceuta Security and Migration Situation Remains a Priority

Spain’s government held a high-level meeting on  as Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez chaired the Council of Ministers at the Moncloa complex in Madrid. The official government agenda also shows Sánchez scheduled to lead a follow-up meeting concerning the situation in Ceuta, highlighting the issue as an immediate government priority.

The Council of Ministers meeting was part of the Spanish government’s regular decision-making process, bringing together senior members of the cabinet to review current national issues and government policy.

The Ceuta situation has received particular attention from Madrid in recent days. On September 1, the government approved an emergency package worth €309 million for the autonomous city. The programme is intended to strengthen essential public services, security, reception facilities and economic support.

The government said the emergency plan represents approximately 16% of Ceuta’s GDP. Of the announced funding, €21 million is allocated to essential services, €90 million to security, €118 million to reception measures and €80 million to support businesses and workers.

Madrid has also expanded accommodation capacity in Ceuta, with the government reporting that more than 3,400 additional places had already been made available for people requiring reception. Authorities have also been working with the autonomous city on additional facilities and measures to accelerate administrative procedures.

The prime minister’s September 8 agenda shows that the government was continuing to closely monitor developments in the territory. Sánchez was scheduled to chair a dedicated executive meeting on the Ceuta situation shortly after the Council of Ministers session.

The government’s recent response comes amid broader attention to migration management and public services in Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city on the North African coast.
