Whenever it comes to the Indian freedom struggle, Birsa Munda’s name is counted among those heroes who challenged the British Empire with their indomitable courage and determination. On his birth anniversary, this article is dedicated to his life and his immortal contribution. Birsa Munda was born on 15 November 1875 in Khunti district of Jharkhand. He had a nature of fighting against injustice since childhood. He dedicated his life to the upliftment of the tribal society and the protection of their rights.Ulgulan (Revolution) Birsa Munda led the ‘Ulgulan’ i.e. a large-scale movement, which aimed to free the land of the tribals from the exploitation of the British and the landlords. His movement was not only for the protection of land, but also for the dignity of women and the re-establishment of Indian religion and culture. Birsa Munda established his religion and worked to save the tribal society from conversion. He appointed 12 disciples to propagate his religion and handed over the religious book to them.
