Regional Instruction for the Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka 21st Livestock Census

Introductions
Under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandsry & Dairying, Government of India, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) carried a major regional training session at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh on July 31, 2024. This program sought to provide State and District Nodal Officers from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka the tools they need to properly apply new mobile and web apps for the forthcoming 21st Livestock Census.

Opening Notes and Significance
The seminar started with virtual pleasantries from Smt. Alka Upadhyaya, who underlined the importance of the livestock industry for India’s economy. Emphasizing that the industry supports millions of livelihoods and makes 5.5% of the national GDP, she pointed out India’s top worldwide milk and egg output. She underlined, therefore, the need of overcoming obstacles in infrastructure, production, and market access if one is to fully realize the promise of the sector.

Workshop Beginning
Shri M M Nayak, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandsry and Dairy Development Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, formally opened the workshop The national song and a ceremonial lamp lighting marking the beginning of a cooperative effort to guarantee the effective implementation of the 21st Livestock Census defined the inauguration.

Keynote Addresses
Emphasizing Andhra Pradesh’s major contributions to India’s livestock sector, Shri M M Nayak pointed out the state’s high numbers of cattle, buffaloes, sheep, and goats as well as its top ranks in milk and egg production. He underlined the need of careful preparation and execution of the cattle census in order to compile information influencing next policies and projects.

Advisor (Statistics) Sh. Jagat Hazarika of DAHD underlined the need of using technology for precise and quick data collecting. He urged all participants to share their collective responsibility to guarantee the success of the census, which would significantly influence next policies and initiatives in the animal husbandry industry.

Speaking about including sustainable practices into the cattle industry, Dr. Amarendra Kumar, Director of the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, He underlined that future departmental policies, new initiatives, and job creation resulting from census data would help cattle farmers by guiding their decisions.

Training courses
The workshop comprised thorough courses on the approaches and live implementation of the new program for the Livestock Census of twenty-first century. Covering mobile apps and dashboard software, the training gave State and District Nodal Officers the tools they need to equip enumerators in their particular areas. Emphasizing the need of accurate breed identification for generating precise statistics necessary for various cattle sector programs and the National Indicator Framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a notable presentation from the ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) stressed.

Final Thought
Sh. V.P. Singh, Director of the Animal Husbandry Statistics Division of DAHD, voted of appreciation to wrap-up the session. He thanked all dignitaries and interested parties and voiced hope for the census operation to be carried out successfully.

Future Prospects and Impact
Scheduled for September to December 2024, the 21st Livestock Census seeks to offer complete and accurate data to guide initiatives aiming at improving the livestock industry. Modernizing data collecting techniques depends on the training in Visakhapatnam, which guarantees the effective and efficient census execution over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.
