This case has drawn disturbing parallels to the infamous murder of Shraddha Walker in Delhi in 2022, highlighting ongoing concerns about violent crime.

Authorities revealed that Mahalakshmi’s dismembered body was found in her Bengaluru home, horrifyingly stored in a refrigerator, with reports indicating that her remains were cut into over 30 pieces.

Pursuit of the Suspect

The suspect, identified as Mukthirajan Pratap Roy, was being actively sought by law enforcement when he died by suicide. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Central Bengaluru, Shekar H. Tekkannavar, shared details about the ongoing manhunt for Roy, who was believed to have been hiding in Odisha.

Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara expressed deep concern over the murder, stating that it had deeply unsettled the community. He indicated that police had received credible information regarding Roy’s whereabouts and had dispatched multiple teams to apprehend him before the tragic incident.

Crime Scene Details

Mahalakshmi’s body was discovered on a Saturday by her mother and sister, igniting a wave of shock throughout Bengaluru. The police have described the condition of the body, which was infested with maggots, and noted that it had been deliberately concealed in the refrigerator.

Previously, the police had taken several individuals into custody for questioning as part of their investigation, with Roy emerging as the principal suspect based on collected evidence. There were also concerns raised by Mahalakshmi’s estranged husband regarding a man known to her who resided nearby.

Commitment to Women’s Safety

In light of this tragic event, Minister Parameshwara addressed the pressing issue of women’s safety in Bengaluru, emphasizing that various safety measures are already in place.

The Mahalakshmi murder case serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced in ensuring community safety, and authorities remain committed to fostering a safer environment for all residents.
