Israel and Greece Seal €3 Billion Air-Defense Agreement in Major Defense Export Deal
Jerusalem, August 31, 2026: Israel and Greece have signed an agreement worth approximately €3 billion to establish a comprehensive, multi-layered air-defense network in Greece, marking one of the biggest defense export agreements in Israel’s history.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of Israel’s Ministry of Defense by Director General Amir Baram and his Greek counterpart Ioannis Bouras. Under the deal, Israel will supply and build an integrated defense architecture based on several Israeli-developed systems.
Multiple Israeli Systems to Form the Network
The planned Greek defense network will combine several Israeli technologies, including David’s Sling and SPYDER, produced by Rafael, along with the BARAK MX system manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries.
The arrangement is designed to create a layered approach to aerial threats rather than relying on a single defense system. Israel’s Ministry of Defense described the agreement as the largest defense export deal between Israel and Greece to date.
Additional Drone-Defense Agreement
Alongside the main contract, Israel and Greece signed a separate agreement worth approximately €26 million for Rafael’s Drone Dome systems.
The technology is intended to strengthen protection of strategic locations against drones and other unmanned aerial threats while adding another layer to Greece’s broader air-defense capabilities.
Defense-Industry Cooperation to Expand
The agreement goes beyond equipment sales. The two governments also plan to expand industrial cooperation, including the transfer of knowledge and technology to Greek industry.
Israeli officials said the arrangement could deepen cooperation between the two countries’ defense sectors while creating additional opportunities for Israeli defense manufacturers.
Strategic Partnership in the Eastern Mediterranean
Israel’s Defense Ministry described Greece as an important strategic partner in the Eastern Mediterranean. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the two countries share strategic interests and face common regional challenges.
The latest agreement comes as Israel seeks to expand its defense exports and strengthen international partnerships. The ministry said defense exports are being treated as an important component of Israel’s broader defense-industrial strategy.
A Major Boost for Israel’s Defense Industry
The deal is expected to have significance beyond bilateral military cooperation. Israel’s defense establishment said large international contracts can support production capacity, strengthen supply chains and contribute to the expansion of the country’s defense industry.
The agreement therefore represents both a strategic partnership with Greece and a major commercial milestone for Israel’s defense sector.
