Pune Passport Office Issues Passports Within 24 Hours to Students Selected for NASA and ESA Educational Visit
The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Pune has issued passports within 24 hours to students from Zilla Parishad schools selected for an educational exposure visit to NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). The initiative is intended to help the students complete essential travel formalities ahead of their international learning experience.

The development was announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on October 15, 2026, following an interactive session held in Pune a day earlier under the Students and Ministry of External Affairs Engagement Programme (SAMEEP).
52 Students Participate in Interactive Session
A total of 52 students attended the programme, which was designed to familiarise them with passport services and the opportunities that international exposure can offer. Dr. Vinod Gaikwad, Regional Passport Officer in Pune, interacted with the students and explained the role of passports in enabling travel, education and cross-cultural learning.
Drawing on his experience in the Indian Foreign Service and international affairs, Gaikwad also discussed the importance of understanding different cultures and developing a wider perspective on the world.
Senior district officials, including Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil and Additional Chief Executive Officer Chandrakant Waghmare, attended the interaction alongside teachers.
Faster Passport Processing Supports Educational Opportunity
The passport office expedited the applications of the selected students and completed issuance within 24 hours. The move helped address an important administrative requirement for young participants preparing for an overseas educational visit.
For students from government-run district schools, opportunities to engage with major international scientific institutions can provide valuable exposure beyond the classroom. Such experiences can encourage curiosity about science, technology, space exploration and different educational pathways.
The visit is expected to give the selected students an opportunity to broaden their understanding through international exposure. However, the official announcement did not specify the travel dates or provide a detailed itinerary for the visit.
Focus on Student Aspirations and Public Service
The initiative brings together two priorities: helping students access educational opportunities and delivering public services efficiently. By accelerating passport processing for the selected group, the Pune office demonstrated how administrative support can help students prepare for opportunities outside India.
The programme also highlights the role of coordination among educational institutions, district authorities and government departments in facilitating student initiatives.
As the students prepare for their visit to NASA and ESA, the initiative offers an example of how timely documentation and institutional cooperation can help young learners move closer to international educational experiences.
