Ukraine Intensifies Drone Campaign Against Russian Oil Refineries as Fresh Fires Reported at Strategic Facilities
Kyiv, November 2, 2026: The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has entered another tense phase following a fresh wave of Ukrainian long-range drone attacks targeting strategic facilities inside Russian territory. Reports of fires and damage at major industrial sites have raised concerns about the security of Russia’s energy infrastructure and its ability to maintain domestic fuel supplies.

The latest developments come as Ukraine continues its campaign against facilities that contribute to Russia’s military and economic capabilities.
Russian Oil Facilities Reportedly Targeted
Reports emerging on November 1 indicated that Ukrainian drones had targeted major oil-processing facilities in Russia, including the NORSI refinery in Kstovo, located in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and a Rosneft-linked refinery in the Samara region.
Russian regional authorities acknowledged a large-scale drone attack and reported significant damage to an industrial facility in the Kstovsky district.
Fire and emergency crews were deployed to respond to the reported damage. However, the full extent of the destruction and its impact on production remained unclear.
Ukraine’s Long-Range Drone Strategy
Ukraine has increasingly relied on long-range unmanned aerial vehicles to strike industrial and military infrastructure deep inside Russia.
These operations are intended to disrupt fuel production, transportation networks and facilities supporting Russian military operations.
The Ukrainian military has previously described attacks on oil infrastructure as part of its broader effort to weaken Russia’s ability to sustain the war.
Russia Reports Large-Scale Drone Interception
Russian authorities claimed that their air defence systems intercepted more than 100 Ukrainian drones during the latest wave of attacks in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Despite these claims, reports of damage to industrial infrastructure indicate that some drones may have reached their intended targets.
The Russian government has not independently confirmed the full extent of the reported refinery damage.
Growing Pressure on Russia’s Energy Sector
Repeated attacks on oil refineries could create additional difficulties for Russia’s domestic fuel market.
Refineries play an important role in supplying petrol, diesel and aviation fuel. Disruptions to major processing facilities could affect production, transportation and export operations.
The International Energy Agency has also highlighted the growing impact of Ukraine’s drone campaign on Russian refining capacity.
Conflict Continues to Escalate
The latest developments demonstrate how drone warfare is increasingly influencing the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
While Ukraine continues targeting strategic infrastructure inside Russia, Russian forces are maintaining attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and other critical infrastructure.
The situation remains volatile, with both countries continuing military operations and no immediate breakthrough towards a lasting peace agreement.
