The distribution programme marked another important effort by the district administration to empower persons with disabilities by improving their mobility and enabling them to lead more independent and dignified lives.

District Collector Shri Debashis Singh handed over the battery-operated tricycles to the selected beneficiaries. During the programme, he reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing the mobility challenges faced by persons with disabilities and ensuring that they have better access to education, public services and everyday activities.

Addressing the beneficiaries and other attendees, the Collector stated that all 30 recipients had completed the required training before receiving their vehicles. The training was arranged to familiarise them with the operation and safe handling of the battery-powered tricycles. He expressed optimism that the vehicles would make everyday commuting easier, save time and reduce the difficulties associated with depending on others for transportation.

Along with the vehicles, each beneficiary received a helmet, a battery charger and crutches to ensure additional convenience and support. The distribution of these essential accessories was intended to make the assistance more comprehensive and useful for the recipients.

Several senior district officials attended the event, including Additional Collector (Revenue) Shri Rajendra Majhi, Additional Collector (General) Smt. Anjalina Pradhan, Additional Superintendent of Police Shri K.K. Hariprasad and Chief Development Officer-cum-Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Shri Ashwini Meher. District Social Security Officer Shri Gobinda Ballav Sarangi coordinated the programme and facilitated the distribution process.

The initiative has brought renewed hope, particularly among students who have long experienced difficulties travelling to their educational institutions. Students with disabilities from Lachhipur College shared their experiences during the programme, explaining how transportation challenges had affected their regular attendance and made travelling during examinations especially difficult.

They welcomed the administration’s support and expressed confidence that the newly received battery-operated tricycles would make their journeys to college more convenient. The vehicles are expected to help them attend classes and examinations with greater ease while reducing their reliance on family members and other individuals for daily transportation.

The distribution programme reflects the importance of providing practical assistance to persons with disabilities rather than limiting empowerment efforts to financial or institutional support alone. Access to suitable transportation can play a vital role in improving educational participation, social interaction and opportunities for independent living.

Through its collaboration with Amulico, the Subarnapur District Administration has taken a meaningful step towards building a more accessible and inclusive society. The initiative is expected to make a positive difference in the lives of the 30 beneficiaries by giving them greater freedom of movement and confidence in managing their daily responsibilities.

The programme also highlights the need for continued efforts to remove mobility barriers and create an environment in which persons with disabilities can participate equally in education, employment and community life. By supporting independent mobility, such initiatives contribute towards ensuring dignity, self-reliance and equal opportunities for all.
