Ukraine Calls for Stronger Air Defense as Russia Intensifies Nationwide Strikes

Ukraine has renewed its appeal for stronger international support after reporting one of the most intense weeks of Russian aerial attacks in recent months. According to Ukrainian officials, the past seven days saw a sustained wave of strikes that affected numerous regions across the country, leaving civilian communities under continuous threat and highlighting the urgent need for enhanced defensive capabilities.
Authorities stated that Russian attacks targeted at least 15 regions during the week, with Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy facing repeated bombardments. Officials said the assaults were carried out using a wide range of weapons, including attack drones, guided aerial bombs, and missiles, many of which were directed at residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure.
The scale of the attacks was described as significant. Ukrainian estimates indicate that nearly 1,400 attack drones, around 1,500 guided aerial bombs, and 19 missiles of various types—including ballistic missiles—were launched over the course of the week. Officials warned that the persistent use of such weapons continues to place millions of civilians at risk.
The strikes reportedly resulted in casualties on an almost daily basis. Homes, public facilities, and essential infrastructure were among the locations affected, adding further pressure to communities already coping with the prolonged impact of the conflict. Emergency responders and local authorities have continued rescue and recovery operations in several regions following the attacks.
In response to the growing threat, Ukraine emphasized that strengthening air defense systems remains one of its highest priorities. Particular importance has been placed on expanding protection against ballistic missiles, which are among the most difficult threats to intercept. Ukrainian leaders have also called for broader international cooperation through initiatives such as the Drone Deal framework, aimed at increasing the country’s defensive capabilities.
Beyond military assistance, Kyiv is urging its international partners to intensify economic pressure on Russia. Ukrainian officials argue that stricter enforcement of sanctions targeting Russia and those supporting its military efforts could play a significant role in limiting the resources available for continued attacks.
Ukraine maintains that stronger international backing—through advanced air defense systems, expanded defense cooperation, and coordinated sanctions—would not only improve civilian protection but also help create conditions for a future resolution to the conflict.
As the war continues, Ukrainian authorities reaffirm that every measure strengthening the country’s defense contributes to protecting lives and advancing efforts toward a lasting peace. They also expressed gratitude to governments and partners that continue to provide military, humanitarian, and financial assistance during the ongoing conflict.
