Jakarta, Indonesia | June 30, 2026 — ASEAN has taken another significant step toward building a more integrated and resilient regional community by convening a two-day Regional Workshop focused on strengthening collaboration across its three major pillars. Held on 29–30 June 2026 at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, the event highlighted the importance of coordinated action in implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

The workshop served as a platform for officials and experts representing the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and ASEAN Connectivity to exchange ideas, align priorities, and improve cooperation on strategic initiatives that extend across multiple sectors.

A major objective of the gathering was to strengthen understanding of each pillar’s cross-cutting strategic measures while identifying opportunities to work together more effectively. Participants explored practical approaches for coordinating implementation, improving monitoring systems, and ensuring that long-term regional objectives remain aligned as ASEAN moves toward its 2045 vision.

Rather than addressing economic, political, and social challenges independently, the workshop emphasized that many of today’s regional issues—including sustainable development, digital transformation, public health, climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and human capital development—require integrated solutions involving all ASEAN pillars.

Discussions also focused on improving institutional coordination within ASEAN so that policies developed in one sector can complement and reinforce initiatives in others. Such cooperation is expected to reduce duplication of efforts, improve resource efficiency, and deliver more meaningful outcomes for the people of Southeast Asia.

The event reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to making cross-pillar collaboration a central feature of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. Officials stressed that stronger coordination will be essential for translating strategic plans into measurable progress and ensuring that implementation remains consistent over the coming decades.

Participants also examined mechanisms for reviewing progress, sharing information, and strengthening communication among ASEAN institutions. Enhanced monitoring and regular assessment were identified as key tools for maintaining momentum and adapting strategies as regional circumstances evolve.

The workshop was organized by the ASEAN Secretariat with financial support from the Government of Japan through the Supporting the Development of the ASCC Strategic Plan Project, funded under the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) 3.0. Japan’s continued partnership reflects its longstanding commitment to supporting ASEAN integration, regional cooperation, and sustainable development initiatives.

The collaboration between ASEAN and Japan has expanded steadily over the years, covering areas such as economic growth, education, disaster risk reduction, environmental protection, digital innovation, and institutional capacity building. Support through JAIF continues to play an important role in helping ASEAN strengthen regional cooperation and implement shared development priorities.

As ASEAN prepares for the next phase of regional integration, the outcomes of the Jakarta workshop are expected to contribute to stronger governance, closer institutional cooperation, and more effective implementation of strategic initiatives. By bringing together representatives from across the organization’s key pillars, ASEAN aims to build a more connected, inclusive, and future-ready regional community capable of addressing emerging challenges while promoting long-term peace, stability, and prosperity across Southeast Asia.
