Lucknow, India — The Government of Uttar Pradesh has introduced a new mechanism aimed at speeding up the resolution of disputes involving public and government-owned land. The initiative is designed to improve transparency, reduce delays, and strengthen the state’s revenue justice system through the creation of dedicated special benches.

Under the new arrangement, three-member special benches will hear cases related to government and public land, allowing pending matters to be addressed more efficiently. The move is expected to streamline legal proceedings and ensure that disputes affecting public property receive focused attention.

To support the initiative, special benches have been constituted in Lucknow and Prayagraj, two key administrative centers in the state. These benches are expected to play a central role in handling complex land-related cases while promoting consistency in legal interpretation and decision-making across the revenue administration.

The government has also introduced a fixed hearing schedule, with proceedings to be held every Wednesday. Officials believe that regular hearings will help reduce the backlog of pending cases and enable faster decisions in matters involving public interest and government assets.

The reform is intended to reinforce the protection of government land by improving oversight and enabling quicker action in cases involving alleged encroachments or disputed ownership. By ensuring that such matters are heard through a specialized judicial framework, the state aims to strengthen accountability and safeguard public resources.

Legal and administrative experts view the establishment of dedicated benches as a significant institutional reform. Specialized forums often allow judges and officials to develop greater expertise in a particular category of disputes, resulting in more efficient case management and greater uniformity in rulings.

The initiative reflects the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader efforts to modernize governance, improve administrative efficiency, and make justice delivery more accessible. Faster disposal of land-related cases is expected to benefit government departments, local authorities, and citizens by reducing uncertainty and supporting better management of public property.

As the special benches begin functioning, their performance will be closely watched as an indicator of the state’s commitment to timely justice, transparent governance, and the effective protection of public assets.
