WTO Members Review Trade Priorities for Developing Economies Ahead of Global Trade Meeting
Geneva, Switzerland – July 8, 2026: Member countries of the World Trade Organization (WTO) have continued discussions on trade priorities for developing economies and least-developed countries (LDCs), with delegates focusing on measures aimed at strengthening participation in the global trading system.
The meetings examined a range of issues, including trade facilitation, capacity building, market access, and technical assistance for developing nations. Representatives emphasized that expanding opportunities for smaller and emerging economies remains an important objective of the WTO’s development agenda.
Officials also reviewed progress under the Aid for Trade initiative, which supports countries in improving trade infrastructure, regulatory systems, and institutional capacity. Preparations are underway for the 10th Global Review of Aid for Trade, where members are expected to assess achievements and identify future priorities.
Delegates highlighted the importance of ensuring that international trade contributes to sustainable economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. Many participants called for stronger cooperation to help developing countries integrate more effectively into regional and global value chains.
