Egypt: Cairo and India Move to Deepen Industrial Cooperation and Investment
Egypt and India are working to expand industrial cooperation and attract greater Indian investment, with both sides discussing new opportunities in manufacturing, exports and industrial partnerships.
Egyptian Industry Minister Khaled Hashem met Indian Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy in Cairo on September 10 to discuss strengthening economic ties. The meeting also covered preparations for the Indian Industry Minister’s planned visit to Cairo in November.
During the discussions, Egypt highlighted its interest in attracting Indian companies to establish and expand operations in the country. Egyptian officials see India as an important partner for developing domestic manufacturing capacity and increasing exports to European, African and Arab markets.
The two countries are also preparing for an Egyptian-Indian business forum in Cairo. The planned programme is expected to include a visit to the Suez Canal Economic Zone, an important industrial and logistics hub that Egypt is seeking to develop as a regional manufacturing centre.
The Egyptian government also expressed interest in India’s experience in industrial policy and regulatory reforms, particularly as Cairo works to simplify procedures and create a more attractive environment for investors.
The Indian side said Indian businesses consider Egypt an attractive investment destination because of its location and potential to serve as a gateway to several regional markets. The two countries are therefore looking to build stronger commercial links beyond traditional trade.
The latest discussions indicate that India-Egypt economic relations are gaining momentum, with manufacturing, investment and export-oriented industries emerging as important areas for future cooperation.
