Explosions were reported across Kyiv early Thursday as Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks against targets in Ukraine, according to a Reuters witness and Ukrainian authorities.

The overnight assault triggered air-raid warnings in the Ukrainian capital, with officials separately issuing a ballistic missile alert. Authorities in Kyiv also reported that fragments had fallen into the courtyard of a residential building as officials worked to determine the extent of the damage.

Kyiv Residents Hear Explosions

The sounds of explosions were heard in the capital during the early hours, highlighting the continuing threat posed by Russian aerial attacks.

Kyiv authorities had already warned residents about a possible drone strike before reporting the discovery of debris near a residential property. At the time of the initial reports, officials were still assessing whether the falling debris had caused additional damage.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces also issued a separate warning concerning a possible ballistic missile threat directed toward Kyiv.

Five Injured in Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia

The overnight attacks were not limited to the capital.

In Kryvyi Rih, a major steel and mining center in central Ukraine and the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, missiles struck an industrial facility, according to Ukrainian officials. Two people were injured in the attack.

Another three people were reported injured in Zaporizhzhia, adding to the casualties from the overnight strikes across Ukrainian territory.

Officials had not provided further details about the condition of those injured in Kryvyi Rih or the full extent of damage from the attacks at the time of the initial reports.

Continued Pressure From Air Attacks

The latest strikes come as Ukraine continues to face repeated Russian missile and drone attacks targeting cities and infrastructure.

Kyiv has remained a frequent focus of long-range attacks, while industrial centers such as Kryvyi Rih have also faced strikes because of their importance to Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure.

The repeated use of drones alongside missiles has made air-defense alerts a regular feature of life in many Ukrainian cities. Thursday’s attack again demonstrated the geographic reach of Russia’s aerial campaign, with warnings and reported impacts involving multiple parts of the country.

Damage Assessment Underway

Authorities in Kyiv were still clarifying the damage after debris landed at the residential location. Officials in other affected areas were also assessing the consequences of the strikes.

The early reports did not indicate fatalities from the incidents described, although five injuries were reported in Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia.

The latest overnight attack underscores the continuing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Ukrainian cities remaining vulnerable to combined drone and missile strikes.
