Indian Air Force’s 92nd Anniversary: ‘Vayu Veer Vijeta’ Car Rally Flagged Off by Defence Minister

As part of the 92nd-anniversary celebrations of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh flagged off the ‘Vayu Veer Vijeta’ car rally at the National War Memorial in New Delhi on October 1, 2024. This significant event marked the beginning of a 7,000-kilometer journey, with over 50 air warriors, including women officers, setting off to travel across nine states and union territories, from the high-altitude region of Thoise in Ladakh to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. The rally aims to inspire young Indians to join the Armed Forces while showcasing the strength and capability of the Indian Air Force.
The Route and Mission
The car rally will cover a diverse and challenging route that begins at Thoise, one of the highest Air Force stations in the world, sitting at over 3,000 meters above sea level. From October 8 to October 29, 2024, the rally participants will pass through several important regions, including Leh, Kargil, Srinagar, Jammu, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Agra, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and several more, before concluding the journey in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.
Through this rally, the IAF aims to spread awareness about the proud legacy of the Indian Air Force and inspire the youth to consider careers in the Armed Forces. Along the way, air warriors will engage with students and young people in schools and colleges, holding interactive sessions that highlight their experiences and the opportunities that come with serving the nation.
A Message of Pride and Dedication
Addressing the audience at the send-off ceremony, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh commended the bravery, dedication, and commitment of the Indian Air Force. He noted, “The Indian Air Force has always been ready to respond to any challenge to national security. With the government’s support, we are continuously equipping our forces with advanced technology under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, ensuring they remain a formidable force in the skies.”
The Defence Minister further expressed confidence that the rally will not only highlight the capabilities of the IAF but also motivate the youth to join the Armed Forces, take pride in their service to the nation, and embrace the spirit of patriotism.
Engagement with Former Chiefs and Senior Officers
The rally has drawn participation from prominent figures within the Indian Air Force, including former Air Chiefs like R.K.S. Bhadauria (Retd.) and A.Y. Tipnis (Retd.). The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, was also present during the flag-off ceremony. Their presence is a testament to the rally’s importance, as it showcases the legacy and continuity of excellence within the Indian Air Force.
The rally is being organized in coordination with veterans from the Uttarakhand War Memorial, under the leadership of the IAF’s Adventure Cell, which has spearheaded the planning and coordination of this ambitious project.
