Malaysia Day Weather Alert Issued for Several Regions
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia is marking its national Malaysia Day celebrations today, while meteorological authorities have issued weather warnings for several parts of the country amid the possibility of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

The weather advisory covers areas of Penang, Sabah and Sarawak, where residents and visitors have been warned to remain alert to changing conditions.
Malaysia Day is observed annually on September 16 to commemorate the formation of the Malaysian federation in 1963. Events are being held across the country as communities take part in national celebrations.
The simultaneous weather alert has prompted authorities to advise people in affected areas to exercise caution, particularly during outdoor activities and public gatherings.
Thunderstorms can develop rapidly in tropical conditions and may be accompanied by intense rainfall, lightning and strong wind gusts. Such weather can temporarily reduce visibility and create difficult conditions for motorists.
In coastal and exposed areas, strong winds can also affect marine activities. Authorities are therefore encouraging people involved in boating and other sea-related activities to follow local safety instructions and monitor official weather updates.
Parts of Sabah and Sarawak regularly experience periods of heavy tropical rainfall, while Peninsular Malaysia can also see sudden thunderstorms during unstable weather conditions.
Emergency and local authorities are expected to monitor the situation throughout the day and respond if flooding, fallen trees or other weather-related incidents occur.
Residents have been advised to secure loose objects around homes and businesses and avoid unnecessary travel during severe thunderstorms. Drivers have also been urged to slow down when roads become wet or visibility deteriorates.
The weather warning comes as Malaysians gather for Malaysia Day activities, making awareness of local weather conditions particularly important for people attending outdoor events.
Meteorological authorities will continue monitoring atmospheric conditions and may update the warning if the affected areas or severity of the weather changes.
