Supreme Court Dismisses Plea for NEET-UG 2024 Retest, Cites Lack of Evidence for Systemic Malpractice
In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court rejected a review petition seeking a fresh National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET-UG 2024, following allegations of malpractice. The petition, filed by Kajal Kumari, argued that a retest was warranted due to suspected irregularities. However, the court dismissed the plea, upholding its earlier August 2 verdict that denied a retest due to insufficient evidence of widespread breach.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, reviewed the plea. ” No case for review under Order XLVII Rule 1 of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, has been established,” stated the court in its October 22 order, recently made public.
The Supreme Court had previously found no systemic issues in NEET-UG 2024 beyond specific centers in Hazaribagh and Patna. In its August 2 decision, the court concluded that these isolated incidents did not compromise the exam’s overall integrity, and thus, no retest was required.
The dismissal of this review plea reinforces the court’s stance on maintaining high standards of evidence before ordering retests in national exams. This decision is significant for NEET aspirants across the country, ensuring the validity of their results and upholding the examination’s credibility.
