Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of Parliament, Supriya Sule, has taken legal action following accusations from a former IPS officer about her involvement in using cryptocurrency, specifically bitcoin, to finance the Maharashtra Assembly elections. In response to the claims made by retired IPS officer Ravindranath Patil, Sule filed a criminal complaint with the Election Commission (EC) and the Cyber Cell in Pune, denouncing the allegations as baseless and part of a strategy to mislead voters.

Patil, a former officer from Pune, accused Sule and Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole of engaging in a cryptocurrency fraud dating back to 2018. According to Patil, the funds generated from this alleged fraud were used to support election campaigns in the state. However, Sule swiftly rejected these claims, labeling them as an attempt to manipulate public opinion just a day before the polls.

In a post on X, Supriya Sule condemned the allegations, calling them “familiar tactics of spreading false information to manipulate the righteous voters.” She expressed her concerns about the malicious intent behind such accusations, especially when they are raised at such a critical time, just before the election. Sule emphasized that she had filed a criminal complaint against the defamatory allegations to safeguard her reputation and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

Sule’s swift legal action reflects her commitment to defending the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution of India. The NCP MP’s move to challenge these accusations in court aims to prevent such false information from influencing the electorate and disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election. The allegations, she stated, are not only unfounded but are also detrimental to the principles of fair democratic elections.
