WHO Releases 2026 Health Coverage Report for South-East Asia Region
South-East Asia: The World Health Organization has released its 2026 regional report tracking progress on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health-related Sustainable Development Goals across the South-East Asia Region.
Published on September 1, the report brings together the latest available evidence from all 10 WHO South-East Asia Member States and examines progress toward global health targets for 2030.
Focus on Universal Health Coverage
The report tracks developments in access to essential health services and other indicators linked to Universal Health Coverage. It also uses an updated monitoring framework to examine progress at both regional and country levels.
The assessment is intended to help identify areas where health systems have advanced as well as areas where significant gaps remain.
Climate Change and Public Health
A major focus of the 2026 report is the relationship between climate change and public health.
The report examines how climate-related changes can affect health and emphasizes the importance of climate-informed surveillance and monitoring. It introduces a set of climate and health indicators designed to support evidence-based decisions.
Building More Resilient Health Systems
The report highlights the importance of strengthening health systems so they can prepare for and respond to changing environmental and health risks.
Climate-smart health systems can help countries improve preparedness, adaptation and resilience while supporting efforts to protect populations from climate-related health impacts.
Country-Level Data Included
The publication contains enhanced country profiles covering progress toward UHC and health-related SDGs. These profiles provide a way to examine differences among the region’s 10 Member States and identify areas requiring additional attention.
The report also includes four thematic domains of climate and health data, providing additional information for monitoring the relationship between environmental conditions and health.
Data to Support Policy Decisions
The WHO says the updated country profiles and indicators can help strengthen accountability and encourage action to close persistent gaps in health coverage.
The report is the 11th annual edition of the regional UHC and health-related SDG monitoring series, providing a continuing statistical record of health progress across South-East Asia.
With nearly two billion people living in the WHO South-East Asia Region, the latest assessment provides an important dataset for understanding regional health-system performance and the challenges involved in reaching the 2030 health targets.
