Zwolle, Netherlands — Dutch police have arrested two men following a series of burglaries at a fire station in Zwolle, where emergency-response equipment was reportedly stolen.

According to the Netherlands Police, officers detained two men from Zwolle during an investigation into burglaries committed at a fire-service facility. Police said several pieces of rescue equipment that had been taken during the break-ins were recovered.

The arrests followed an investigation launched after firefighters discovered that equipment used for emergency and rescue operations had been taken. Such equipment is particularly important because it can be required immediately during accidents, fires and other emergencies.

Police have not released the full identities of the suspects while the investigation continues. Authorities are examining the recovered items and other evidence to determine the precise circumstances of the burglaries and whether the two men may be connected to additional offences.

Investigators are also expected to establish when the break-ins occurred and how the suspects gained access to the premises.

The case highlights concerns surrounding theft from emergency-service facilities, where stolen equipment can potentially affect the ability of responders to deal with incidents quickly.

The two suspects remain subject to the ongoing investigation. As with any criminal allegation in the Netherlands, they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty through the judicial process.

Dutch police said the investigation is continuing and further information may be released as investigators establish the full circumstances surrounding the burglaries.
