Ireland: New Employment Rules Approved for Security Industry Workers
Ireland’s Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Alan Dillon, has approved a new Employment Regulation Order (ERO) covering workers in the security industry, according to the latest departmental government update. The announcement was published by Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment on September 7, 2026.

The measure is designed to establish legally enforceable employment conditions for eligible workers covered by the sectoral employment order. Employment Regulation Orders are used in Ireland to set minimum rates of pay and other employment conditions within particular sectors.
The security industry is among the sectors where employment conditions can involve specific requirements because workers may operate across a wide range of locations and duties. The new order therefore provides a sector-specific framework for covered employees and employers.
The government’s announcement comes as Ireland continues to focus on employment standards, workplace protections and the wider development of its labour market. Official figures released in August showed that employment had reached approximately 2.84 million people in the second quarter of 2026, with 21,200 jobs added over the previous year.
The latest security-sector decision is part of Ireland’s broader workplace policy framework, which includes employment rights, industrial relations, workplace safety and mechanisms for resolving employment disputes. The Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment works alongside bodies including the Workplace Relations Commission in administering and enforcing employment standards.
The government has also introduced other employment-related reforms during 2026. In June, it launched a Deemed Insolvent Process, creating a new route for certain workers to access the Insolvency Payments Scheme when an employer stops trading without formally entering liquidation, receivership or bankruptcy.
The latest Employment Regulation Order demonstrates the government’s continuing use of sector-specific regulations to establish employment standards. For workers and employers in the security industry, the order provides an updated regulatory framework governing the conditions covered by the measure.
Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment said the new order represents the latest development in its work on workplace and employment regulation.
