West Bengal MLA Bayron Biswas Injured in Murshidabad House Fire
Murshidabad, West Bengal: Sagardighi MLA Bayron Biswas was injured after a fire broke out at his residence in Dhulian, Murshidabad. The incident triggered a rapid emergency response as thick smoke was seen coming from the building.

The fire reportedly broke out at around 11 a.m. while Biswas was at the property. Family members, local residents and workers raised the alarm after noticing smoke coming from the building. Police and fire personnel reached the location and rescued the legislator.
Biswas suffered burn injuries, including injuries to his arms and legs. He was taken to a private nursing home for treatment, and reports said his condition was initially described as stable.
Several fire tenders were deployed to tackle the blaze. Firefighters eventually brought the situation under control, preventing the flames from causing further damage. Other family members who were present at the property were not reported to have suffered injuries.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. Police are examining different possibilities, including an electrical short circuit. Investigators are also looking at the fact that the premises are connected with the family’s bidi-manufacturing business.
The incident caused concern in the surrounding area as smoke could be seen emerging from the house. Local people assisted in raising the alarm while emergency teams worked to reach the injured MLA and control the fire.
The incident comes as Biswas remains an active political figure in Murshidabad. He represents Sagardighi and has undergone several political shifts in recent years. He won the constituency in a 2023 by-election on a Congress ticket before moving to the Trinamool Congress. He was re-elected in the 2026 Assembly elections and later became associated with the Democratic Trinamool Congress faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee.
Political leaders expressed concern following the incident and wished the MLA a speedy recovery. The focus meanwhile remains on his medical treatment and the ongoing investigation into how the fire started.
Authorities are expected to examine the electrical systems and other possible ignition sources at the premises as part of the investigation. A detailed assessment of the property may also help establish how quickly the fire spread and what caused the injuries.
The incident highlights the risks associated with fires in mixed residential and commercial premises, particularly where manufacturing or storage activities are also carried out. Emergency officials generally face additional challenges in such locations because combustible materials can accelerate the spread of flames.
For residents in the area, the quick arrival of police and fire personnel helped prevent the incident from becoming more serious. Further details about the cause of the blaze are expected as the investigation progresses.
