Guyana Police Constable Arrested Over Alleged Leak of Shooting Surveillance Footage
Georgetown, Guyana — October 28, 2026
A 20-year-old police constable in Guyana has been arrested over allegations that he secretly downloaded surveillance footage connected to an October 12 shooting incident and handed it over in exchange for money, according to reports citing the Guyana Police Force.

Police said the constable, who was assigned to the Force’s Command Centre, allegedly copied the footage onto a flash drive while on duty on October 23. Investigators allege that opposition leader Azruddin Mohamed paid him GY$800,000 for the recording the following day. The constable was arrested on October 26, and the investigation is continuing.
Footage at the Centre of a Dispute
The footage relates to a shooting incident outside the residence of Senior Superintendent Prem Narine in Georgetown. Mohamed subsequently released video footage at a press conference, claiming it supported his account of an attempted assassination.
The incident and the handling of the surveillance recording have sparked questions about police procedures, the security of sensitive evidence, and competing accounts of what happened.
Investigation Continues
Authorities are investigating the alleged unauthorised disclosure and reported payment. The allegations have not been established in court, and an arrest should not be treated as proof of guilt. The case also raises broader concerns about the protection of police evidence and public confidence in law enforcement.
