Ghaziabad Tops as India’s Most Polluted City, Delhi-NCR’s Air Quality Hits Severe Levels

Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the most polluted city in India concerning air quality, with Delhi ranking second and Greater Noida third. The air quality across Delhi-NCR has entered the “severe” category, raising concerns among experts who predict a rise in pollution levels as Diwali approaches, potentially worsening smog conditions.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) as of 10 a.m. on Sunday, Ghaziabad recorded the country’s highest Air Quality Index (AQI) at 376. Delhi followed with an AQI of 356, and Greater Noida reported 351, reflecting deteriorating air quality. Noida’s AQI stood at 325, while Meerut recorded 209, and Muzaffarnagar 129, indicating varying levels of pollution across the region.
Loni’s Air Quality Reaches Hazardous Category
In Ghaziabad’s Loni area, the AQI surged to a hazardous level of 410, highlighting severe air pollution. The readings indicate that both Ghaziabad and Greater Noida have now crossed into the “severe” pollution category, posing serious health risks.
